Artisan
This Beni Ouarain runner is handmade by Berber women. Rug weaving is a female tradition passed from mother to daughter through observation and hands-on practice.
Beni Ouarain
Beni Ouarain rugs are made by Berber tribes living in the northeastern Middle Atlas Mountains. The region is ideal for raising sheep whose wool is used in these rugs.
The Beni Ouarain people lead a semi-nomadic life, moving between the mountains and lowlands depending on the season. Today, movement often involves trucks, but traditional lifestyles are still observed.
The rugs feature geometric brown or black lines forming diamonds and abstract patterns on a cream or white background. Originally made for domestic use, their simple design suited daily life on stone floors.
Handwoven rugs
Both vintage and newly made Beni Ouarain rugs are handwoven. As a result, their designs are never perfectly symmetrical. These imperfections are part of what makes each rug unique and authentic.
This piece uses a simple brown geometric design on a natural white wool base.
Tribal rugs
Tribal rugs are created without following a drawn pattern. Each weaver is free to improvise, becoming the artist of her own work.
Berber rugs use the Berber knot, which creates a flexible structure, ideal for nomadic life. These rugs are more lightweight and easier to transport than those made with Turkish knots.
What style suits Beni Ouarain carpets?
Modernist designers like Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Eameses used Beni Ouarain rugs to soften the lines of 20th-century interiors.
The monochrome palette and simple geometric style work well in modern, Scandinavian, bohemian, Kinfolk, and ethnic-inspired interiors.
Best rooms for a Beni Ouarain rug
This versatile rug suits almost any space. Use it in a bedroom, living room, or playroom. It adds texture and pattern without overpowering other elements in the room.
Its design helps zone open areas, adds comfort underfoot, and brings a cosy atmosphere through its tactile surface.
Looking after your rug
Shake your rug outdoors every few months and vacuum it regularly. To restore flattened pile, vacuum against the direction of the fibres. Don’t forget to clean the reverse side occasionally too, as dust collects there as well.
Stain treatment
Treat spills quickly to reduce staining. Dilute the area with water and blot with a kitchen towel, starting from the outer edge. Avoid rubbing the fibres. Allow the rug to dry completely to prevent damage.
Do not use bleach or chemical cleaners—they can leave a permanent white stain. For stubborn marks, professional cleaning is recommended. Contact us if you need help.
Delivery and returns
Your order will be dispatched via UPS within 5 working days. Worldwide shipping is available, and EU deliveries have no additional fees post-Brexit. You’ll receive a tracking link once the rug is on its way.
If you’re not happy with your purchase, you can return it within 2 days of receiving it for a full refund, minus return postage.
