This vintage Caput Kilim runner is handwoven by the gypsy culture in South Central Turkey and is one of our beautiful Kilim collection. It features a stripey colourful bold rug design made using a blend of cotton and goat hair. The slightly coarse texture comes from the goat hair, while the cotton adds softness and flexibility.

With a bold mix of colours and a long, narrow shape, this Caput Kilim is ideal for hallways, kitchens, or any space that benefits from a pop of colour, such as a children’s room or bathroom.

What Makes Caput Kilim Bold Rugs Unique?

The character of a Caput Kilim Bold Rug comes from its practical history. Traditionally used as bedding, floor coverings, or blankets, these rugs were woven by women for everyday household use. Created on portable looms that could be rolled up and moved between settlements, the rugs were woven in narrow strips and later stitched together to form the final size. The inclusion of goat hair is functional. It expands when wet to create a water resistant barrier, while local Mediterranean cotton adds flexibility and comfort underfoot.Materials and Practicality

The Mediterranean climate of South Central Turkey is ideal for growing cotton, the primary fibre in these rugs. Goat hair is often included for its water-resistant properties. When exposed to moisture, goat hair expands and helps prevent water from passing through, an important feature for a rug used as bedding or ground cover.

How They’re Made

Caput Kilims are created using portable looms, which are rolled up and transported between settlements. These looms allow for weaving only narrow strips, which are later cut and stitched together to create larger pieces. Each rug is one of a kind and reflects the nomadic lifestyle of its makers.

Do You Need Underlay?

If you’re placing this rug on wood, tile or laminate, we recommend using underlay. Kilims are lightweight and may slide on hard floors. Underlay keeps the rug secure, adds cushioning, reduces noise, and may extend its lifespan.

Care and Maintenance

This Caput Kilim is low-maintenance. Vacuum it using a low suction setting and occasionally flip it to clean the underside. A shake outdoors every few months helps dislodge embedded dust.
