It is woven with hand-spun wool which gives it shades of Bordeaux red and alternating cream tones, instead of solid block colours. The hand-spun wool gives the kilim rug more variety in colour and creates extra depth.
Its design and look is contemporary with a bordeaux red herringbone geometric design with alternating blocks in creamy white.
Red Bordeaux Herringbone Flatweave
This Bordeaux red kilim rug is flatwoven, which means it does not have a pile of wool on one side and as such it is much lighter than a pile rug.
Kilims are made by interweaving the warp and weft strands in a flat texture. This makes them reversible and so they can be laid out from both the front and back side.

It is handmade with 100% hand-spun wool. It has a soft feel to it with a flexible handle yet is durable and hardwearing.
Handwoven rugs

Typical for handmade rugs is that they do not necessarily have perfect symmetrical designs. They have imperfections in design and this is also part of the charm of handwoven rugs and what makes every rug unique.
In this case the rug is handwoven with a simple herringbone design with a symmetrical look and feel to it, yet every block varies slightly in shape and colour.
Underlay
This kilim rug has a good weight to it, is not too thin or too floppy, however depending on the underfloor you may wish to add an underlay.

Maintaining and caring for your kilim
This Turkish kilim is hardwearing and durable. It is relatively low maintenance and only requires and occasional vacuum clean.
It is best to vacuum it on a lower setting and make sure you also do the reverse now and then as just as much dust accumulates there, as on the front.
Furthermore, it is sensible to give your rug a good shake outside every couple of months.
Stain treatment
The quicker you deal with spills, the less chance there is of it staining.
The effective way to treat a spill, for example red wine, is to apply water to begin with to dilute the stain, followed by mopping it with a kitchen towel straight away.
Start from the outside of the stain and work inwards to limit the affected area, but do not rub the stain as this can damage the yarn. Once a carpet gets wet, it is important to dry it out thoroughly afterwards, to prevent the wool from rotting.
Don’t use any bleach or chemical treatments as they might take the stain out, but leave a white stain instead.
