This 300x400cm Thick Large Jute Rug is a popular choice for homeowners looking to add natural warmth and texture to their interiors.
Handwoven with a thick braided weave in a natural tone and finished with four raised borders, this rug offers practical style for a variety of spaces.
The weave is identical on both sides, making it reversible. Its soft texture and 1cm thickness, with borders up to 1.5cm, should be considered where doors need clearance.
Made from jute fibres grown in India and Bangladesh, these rugs provide insulation, sound absorption and visual appeal. Jute is eco-friendly, renewable and grown without pesticides, making it a strong option for environmentally conscious homes.

Production
Each rug is woven in an Indian workshop that follows ILO conventions, with safe working conditions and fair pay in line with UN guidelines.
Jute
Jute is a long, soft fibre spun into strong threads. It is one of the most widely produced plant fibres after cotton. South India provides an ideal growing climate with warm temperatures, monsoon humidity and standing water.
Vegetable Fibre
Jute is a vegetable fibre that is biodegradable and renewable. It’s a practical choice for those avoiding synthetic materials. While not as hardwearing as wool, it’s suited to low to medium traffic areas.
Some shedding may occur due to the natural fibres. This is reduced with heat treatment but cannot be entirely avoided. Vacuuming on a low setting helps minimise it.
The thick weave may produce occasional loose strands. These can be trimmed or tucked back in. For higher durability, consider a tighter weave or wool alternative.
Our Emily’s House Thick Large Jute Rug is reversible, so if one side becomes worn, simply flip it over.
Underlay
The rug is heavy and generally stays in place. However, underlay may be preferred depending on your floor surface. It also adds comfort underfoot.
Maintaining and Caring for Your Rug
- Vacuum on a low suction setting
- Spot clean with a damp cloth and avoid harsh cleaners
- Keep out of high-humidity areas
- Rotate regularly for even wear

If you’re not satisfied, you may return your rug within 2 days of receipt for a full refund, excluding return postage. Bespoke rugs are non-refundable.
