Description
260x300cm Thick Braided Jute Rug
This thick braided jute rug is handwoven with a natural blond colour and has 2 raided borders on the short ends.
The weave is the same on both sides so this makes the rug reversible too. It has a soft texture and a thickness of 1 cm with up to 1.5cm on the borders (think about doors opening and closing).
Made from the fibres of the jute plant, which is primarily grown in India and Bangladesh, these rugs don’t only look beautiful but also have insulating and noise-reduction properties. What’s more, they are eco-friendly, as jute is a renewable resource that requires little water and no pesticides to grow, so a sustainable choice for environmentally-conscious consumers.

Production
The rugs are woven in a workshop in India complying with ILO conventions and recommendations, good working conditions and fair wages in line with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and key UN conventions.
Vegetable fibre
Jute is a vegetable fibre that is extracted from the stem of the jute plant. It is an eco-friendly material that is biodegradable and renewable, so these rugs are a great choice for those who are looking for an environmentally friendly option. However jute rugs are not as durable as for example wool rugs are and therefore they do come with a few downsides.
Due to the nature of the material, there will be some shedding. We do everything we can do minimise this (like heat treatment) but it can not be completely avoided. The shedding can be minimised by vacuuming gently on a low setting and avoid placing it in high traffic areas.
Due to the thickness of this weave, there will be some loose strands popping out over time. They can just be cut off or tucked in again. Choosing something with a more tight weave can reduce this or choosing for a different material all together, like wool, can be a more durable option.
It is worth re-mentioning here that these jute rugs have been made reversible, so if one side becomes worn you can turn them around.
Maintaining and caring for your carpet
Rugs made from plant fibres are prone to staining and fading over time. They do require some TLC and are not as hardwearing and durable as for example, wool rugs.
There are some things you can do:
- Vacuum on a low suction setting to avoid damaging the fibers.
- Spot clean any spills or stains immediately with a clean, damp cloth. Be gentle with the rug to avoid causing any damage.
- Avoid placing the rug in areas with high humidity, as this can cause the fibers to weaken and break down over time.
- Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear and tear.
