Description
Pale Pink With Green Large Handwoven Berber Rug 200x302cm
This Midcentury Moroccan rug in pale pink is handwoven by Berber women from the area of Zaiane in the Middle Atlas Mountains.
It has a traditional Zaiane design with a distinct geometric pattern in diamonds with a symmetrical and repetitive design. Its colour palette has aged nicely into faded pink with accents in green.
The rug is handwoven with natural wool, giving the rug a soft and durable texture. Its pile of wool is low and can withstand some wear and tear.
Zaiane rugs also have cultural significance in Morocco. They are often used as floor coverings or wall hangings, adding a touch of Moroccan heritage and vibrant aesthetics to any space.
This Zaiane rug has a medium size of 200x305cm and is in good vintage condition without any repairs.
Handwoven rugs
This Midcentury Moroccan Berber rug from Zaiane is handwoven by artisan weavers.
Typical for handmade rugs is that they do not necessarily have perfect symmetrical designs. They have imperfections in design and this is also part of the charm of tribal handwoven rugs and what makes every rug unique.
In this case the rug is handwoven with a semi symmetrical and repetitive geometric design in earthy tones of pink with accents in green.

Tribal rugs
This Midcentury Moroccan Berber rug is a piece of folk art!
Rug making is a female activity and it forms an integral part of the Berber communities. Knowledge and skills are passed on from one generation to the next , from mother to daughter, with skills being acquired through observation, practice and self discipline.
One of the most significant attributes of a tribal handwoven rug is its uniqueness. It’s design , pattern and choice of colour is rooted in the cultural background of the maker, yet tribal rugs are made by heart, without any drawing or cartoon to follow, which means that every weaver has the freedom to invent the rug while weaving and be the artist of her own creation, instead of ‘simply’ executing a specific drawing or cartoon.
This means that every tribal rug is therefore a highly personalised form of self-expression and that no two rugs are ever alike. How traditional berber women, living fairly remote and local lifestyles had access to so much creativity is a different question all together. It may just imply that today’s hyper-connectivity may not be essential to the expansion of our selves creatively.

Underlay : When do I need underlay?
I recommended using underlay if your rug is fairly lightweight, like a kilim or a thin short-pile rug, that is placed on a hard surface like wood, laminate or tiles. In such cases your rug may slide, which can cause a safety hazard. Underlay would prevent this and will keep your rug in place. Underlay also provides extra cushioning which makes the rug more comfortable to walk on. What’s more, it offers noise-reduction properties and may even increase the longevity of your rug.

Maintaining and caring for your rug
This Midcentury Moroccan Berber rug in is relatively low in maintenance and only requires and occasional vacuum clean.
It is best to vacuum it on a lower setting and make sure you also do the reverse now and then as just as much dust accumulates there, as on the front.
Furthermore, it is sensible to give your rug a good shake outside every couple of months.
Stain treatment
The quicker you deal with spills, the less chance there is of it staining.
The effective way to treat a spill, for example red wine, is to apply water to begin with to dilute the stain, followed by mopping it with a kitchen towel straight away.
Start from the outside of the stain and work inwards to limit the affected area, but do not rub the stain as this can damage the yarn. Once a carpet gets wet, it is important to dry it out thoroughly afterwards, to prevent the wool from rotting.
Don’t use any bleach or chemical treatments as they might take the stain out, but leave a white stain instead.
When in doubt, professional carpet cleaning will always remain the best choice. If you need advice on this, pleased get in touch.
