Kilim rugs
Kilims are a popular choice for hallways, entryways and other areas at home that receive a lot of use as they are strong and resistant to wear and tear. Their flat-woven texture makes them a great choice for dining areas too as this allows chairs to slide in and out without catching.
Hand-dyed wool
All contemporary and made-to-measure kilims are handwoven by artisan weavers with hand-dyed wool. This gives the rugs a unique appearance that machine-dyed wool cannot replicate, achieving different levels of colour saturation to create a more sophisticated and rich texture.
Size and shape
This striped kilim has a large size of 245cm wide and 325cm long.
If you are in doubt about what size you ideally need, please find here some guidelines to help you make the right decision.
Underlay
Kilim rugs or flat-weaves typically do not have a pile of wool on one side and as such they are much lighter and thinner than pile rugs.
If placed on a hard surface like wood, laminate or tiles, you may wish to add an underlay to prevent slipping or sliding and to keep your rug in place.
Underlay also provides extra cushioning which makes the rug more comfortable to walk on. What’s more, it offers noise-reduction properties and may even increase the longevity of your rug.
“Underlay makes SUCH a difference not only in keeping the rug in place but also in making it feel much nicer to walk on.”

Maintaining and caring for your kilim
This teal blue herringbone striped kilim is hardwearing and durable. It is relatively low in maintenance and only requires and occasional vacuum clean.
It is best to vacuum it on a lower setting and make sure you also do the reverse now and then as just as much dust accumulates there, as on the front.
Furthermore, it is sensible to give your rug a good shake outside every couple of months.
Stain treatment
The quicker you deal with spills, the less chance there is of it staining.
The effective way to treat a spill, for example red wine, is to apply water to begin with to dilute the stain, followed by mopping it with a kitchen towel straight away.
Start from the outside of the stain and work inwards to limit the affected area, but do not rub the stain as this can damage the yarn. Once a carpet gets wet, it is important to dry it out thoroughly afterwards, to prevent the wool from rotting.
Don’t use any bleach or chemical treatments as they might take the stain out, but leave a white stain instead.
When in doubt, professional carpet cleaning will always remain the best choice. If you need advice on this, pleased get in touch.
